Evaluation Information - All Ages
We only do evaluation for our Summer Soccer Program. Fall Competitive Soccer Teams are formed based on age and numbers of players registered.
Evaluations consist of two sessions. PLAYERS MUST REGISTER EVEN IF THEY WILL NOT BE IN ATTENDANCE AT EVALUATIONS. Please notify Carrlin at centralmndoc@gmail.com if your player will not attend evaluations.
All registrations must be completed by the close of registration (see below). - THERE WILL BE NO ONSITE REGISTRATIONS ALLOWED
Players who do not register prior to evaluations may still be placed on a team. However, their placement will be based on roster availability after all evaluated players have been placed.

Q&A
When and how do I register?
Registration for the 2025 Summer Competitive Season Evaluations opens September 14, 2024. The link will be available on our Summer Season Page. Registrations must be completed by October 3, 2024 for 9U - 12U and October 30, 2024 for 13U - 19U.
What if I am unable to attend evaluations?
Any player who is unable to attend evaluation sessions must still register. On the registration form indicate your player is unable to attend AND email Carrlin Meier at centralmndoc@gmail.com and inform him of your player's name, year, and team they are trying out for, and what date(s) they are unavailable.
What if I don’t make the team I am trying out for?
CMYSA cannot guarantee a player will make an elevated team. However, CMYSA does make a concerted effort to roster every player who signs up for evaluations. If player numbers or the appropriate playing level cannot be met, players will be referred to the CMYSA recreation program or another competitive club.
What team will my child be placed on if they cannot attend evaluations?
CMYSA attempts to act in the best interest of the player but recognizes the importance of player evaluations. Therefore, individuals who cannot attend (and are not a medical hold) will most likely be placed on the lowest competitive team of their age group.
How does my player get evaluated for multiple age groups (play up)?
9U to 12U players:
If a player wants to play up, they must attend both evaluation sessions for both their current age group and the older age group. Only players assessed in the top 25% of both their current age group AND the older age group will be allowed to play up. If a child doesn’t meet the criteria to play up, the player is placed based on ranking for their actual age group.
13U and older:
If a player wants to be considered for an older Division 1 team AND be considered for their own year Division 1 team, they need to attend both evaluation sessions.
Team formation for banded (2 age groups) Division 1 teams:
- Teams will consist of the top 16 - 18 players in these 2 birth years. I.E. top 16 - 18 players born in 2008 and 2009.
- If a player is outside of the banded age group, they need to rank in the 25%, if a Division 1 team is available in their true age group.
- For example, CMYSA is offering a 2007 boys' Division 1 Team and a 2006 - 2005 Division 1 team. The 2007 player must rank in the top 25% of the 2006 - 2005 players to make this team.
- If no 2007 Division 1 team is offered, the 2007 player must rank in the top 16 - 18 players in the 2006 - 2005 player pool.
When do I show up for my evaluation and what should I bring?
Arrive 15 minutes prior to start time to check in and warm up.
Bring:
- Shin guards (Players without shin guards will NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE)
- Water
- Soccer ball
- Soccer cleats or flat soled shoes
- A safety strap is needed for prescription eyeglasses
Who evaluates players and why?
High school and licensed area coaches as well as college players are invited to evaluate age groups. High school coaches will not be used to evaluate players they coach and club coaches will not be used to evaluate age groups containing their child(ren).
Many of our coaches are volunteer parents. While most of these individuals are able to remain unbiased, CMYSA does not want to put coaches in the middle of team formation (creating rifts between parents and players) and wants to ensure that other motivations (high school team success, parent or friendship motives) do not skew team formation. We also do not want to place a new player at a disadvantage compared to other players.
Why do the current age group coaches NOT evaluate their team at tryouts?
The purpose is to evaluate players on an equal playing field. In order to minimize the bias (both good and bad) that comes with working with players for an extended period of time, individuals who are not familiar with the players help conduct evaluations. Coaches' feedback is considered in player placement through a feedback form which includes: overall rankings, practice/game attendance, attitude and other applicable comments.
When will teams be posted?
You will be notified within 7-10 days of evaluations.
How do I accept or decline a roster spot?
Once rosters are announced, players will need to register for their team in order to claim their roster spot. The deadline to claim a roster spot will be noted in the offer email.
If a player is not registered by this time, their spot can be given to a registered player from another team. If a player does not want to participate in CMYSA after teams are announced, please email Carrlin Meier at centralmndoc@gmail.com
What if I need help paying Travel Team fees?
CMYSA is committed to providing a high-quality and affordable youth soccer program. The Financial Assistance program was created to provide some fee reduction for families that cannot afford to play soccer. Information about qualifying for financial assistance can be found on our Financial Aid Page. Funds are limited and awarded on a first come first serve basis. Families applying for Financial Assistance will receive more information regarding the financial aid application when teams are announced.
What if I am interested in coaching a team?
CMYSA is dedicated to providing quality coaching for all its teams. If you are interested in coaching a team, please email Carrlin Meier at centralmndoc@gmail.com. Coaches must complete their Concussion Training, Safe Sports Training, and sign the Coach Code of Ethics and Conduct Agreement prior to being selected for a coaching position.
