Competitive Soccer Overview

The Competitive Program

The goal of our competitive soccer program is to provide a more consistent training environment and quality matches to accelerate the development of players. We strive to prepare our players to compete in their high school programs and beyond to whatever level of play they desire.

This level of soccer requires a higher level of commitment and love of the game because:

  • The season is longer (January through mid to late July)
  • Most teams play 8-12 games in league play and 2-4 tournaments.
  • Games generally are half home and half away.
  • Away games typically, though not always, are within a 75-mile range of St. Cloud.
  • The cost is higher

Before signing up for this program, know you are committing to the following:

  • Being available for players' game night (see table below for anticipated game night)
  • Attending at least 75% of practices and 90% of games (this may mean coming back from the cabin early, missing a school spring sports practice, or having a conversation with your coach to find an alternative solution)
  • Making one night a week commitment to soccer during January through mid-March for winter training. This is optional for black and blue teams though highly encouraged.
  • Training independently. Coaches will give players' skills assignments (5 to 15 minutes) to be completed on their own.

Division 1

This is the highest level of soccer currently offered at CMYSA. Players signing up for Division 1 soccer are generally committed to soccer being their primary sport.  They are interested in soccer training year round and are looking for success at the High School Varsity level and beyond into the college ranks. This is our most intense training exposing players to advanced individual skills and team tactics. Division 1 teams will train 2-3 times a week and players are expected to work on their own skills outside of practice as well.

Division 2

This is for our players who want to work towards making it into our Division 1 program or our highly skilled athletes who don't want soccer year-around.  Division 2 players have a desire to compete and are driven by seeing their skills improve through training. The training intensity is taken up a notch at this level. Coaches will focus on a mix of individual development and team tactical training.  Players competing at this level are generally prepared for success in their high school soccer environment.

Division 3

For players ready to take the next step from Recreational Soccer or players looking for more than what recreational soccer offers, but aren't interested in playing soccer year-around. This level is perfect for players who are just starting out with Competitive Soccer.  Some players at the Division 3 level may continue to develop and move up to Division 2 or 1. While some players just want to spend time with their soccer friends playing a sport they enjoy, and Division 3 is the perfect place. The length of the season is still the same however the number and intensity of the training sessions is reduced.  Division 3 players still receive top notch soccer training.
