Recreational Soccer Overview
Our Approach
Our fundamental belief for what drives children into and out of Rec soccer is this.
Why Children Play Rec Soccer
- To have fun
- To be with their friends
- To make new friends
- To improve and learn
- To feel good
- To wear the gear
Why Children Quit Rec Soccer
- Criticism and yelling
- No playing time
- Emphasis on winning
- Poor communication
- Fear of making mistakes
- Boredom/not learning
Because of this we try and balance each and every session with a mix of training and games. The training plans are customized for each age group to try to provide the appropriate level of challenge to foster growth without frustration. Our trainers are instructed to give strong positive feedback to the players as they try new things. We want to reward the effort they are putting in whether they succeed or not. When we switch to the games, we strive to not put a focus on the score. While we do celebrate with the players when they get a goal what we really want is for them to get reset and play on. This maximizes the time that each individual players get with the soccer ball.
From time to time we get concerns from families about the competitiveness of a younger rec team or in the challenge their player is receiving. If these are concerns that you are feeling as a rec parent then there is a good chance that the competitive soccer program is probably a better fit for your player. Please always feel free to reach out to us to discuss!
